Baby Shower Cake Ideas

What is the highlight of any baby shower?  Why, the cake, of course.  The baby shower cake sets the mood for the baby shower, and is the symbol for the coming of the new baby, so it can't be plain!  Here are some baby shower cake ideas that will make your baby shower cake a hit:

  1. Think outside the circle!  Cakes can be in any shape you wish!  For baby showers, you might want the cake to be in the shape of booties, a stork, bib, baby carriage, baby bottle, or balloons.
  2. Instead of one large cake, why not have small mini-cakes in the shape of blocks?  When making this cake, fill it with jam then cut out the petit fours which will then be covered with fondant all over. Once they dry, decorate them with lettering. Have it arranged in a way that it spells out your message (or even the baby's name).
  3. Ducky Theme.  Ducks are a favorite for baby showers and make great baby shower cakes.  Use blue butter cream as an outline of the pond and then fill it with blue gel to serve as the water. Find little ducky pieces and place them on top of the blue gel and give these mini duckies butter cream raindrops to have the desired ducky theme effect.
  4. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Theme.  Have the cake covered with sky blue fondant. Then use a white or yellow marshmallow fondant, roll it and cut it in a star-like shape with facial features and a dimpled smile.

If the baby shower already has a theme, continue with that theme when creating the baby shower cake.  It's always a good idea to look at the theme decorations, then match the food and baby shower cake accordingly.

Below are a couple YouTube videos of different baby shower cakes.  My favorite is the small cake surrounded by small cupcakes, and the second shows a delightful baby shower cake with large blocks on the top of the cake:
